Skylab, a photo voltaic monitoring distributor and renewable power undertaking developer, has unveiled formidable plans to construct a 1 GW photo voltaic power storage and battery facility within the Australian state of Queensland.

From pv journal Australia

Renewables developer Skylab says the proposed Punch’s Creek Renewable Power Undertaking – to be constructed close to Toowoomba, Queensland – will embrace an 800 MW photo voltaic farm and a 250 MW/250 MWh battery power storage system.

In a growth software lodged with Toowoomba Regional Council, Brisbane-based Skylab stated the plan was for the undertaking to be developed in two phases. The primary part of building will embrace the set up of 400 MW of photo voltaic, together with a big battery and related infrastructure, together with a substation.

Development of the preliminary part is scheduled to start in mid-2024 and final about 18 months. The second part of the undertaking will add a further 400 MW of photo voltaic.

Skylab stated the undertaking will assist state and nationwide renewable power targets and supply vital assist as coal-fired technology capability continues to exit the system.

“With direct entry to the Powerlink transmission community this website supplies the last word steadiness between connectivity and alternative,” the corporate stated. “With current selections to part out coal technology crops, this undertaking is in the most effective location to interchange 900 MW of adjoining technology.”

The undertaking is being constructed close to the 825 MW coal-fired Millmerran Energy Station, which is at present scheduled to shut in 2051. It would hook up with the Nationwide Electrical energy Market (NEM) by Powerlink’s current 330 kV energy transmission line.

“Being situated close to the Millmerran Energy Station, the photo voltaic and power storage facility will have the ability to maximize its entry to the grid and its capability to export renewable power to the facility system,” Skylab stated in its software.

Skylab can also be advancing plans for the 94 MW Gunsynd Photo voltaic Farm close to Goondiwindi in southwest Queensland. The corporate stated it has secured a connection settlement for the undertaking, which can even embrace 20 MW of power storage capability, and building is predicted to start within the second quarter of the yr.

The corporate’s portfolio additionally consists of the Springvale Renewable Undertaking close to Townsville in north Queensland. The proposal features a 400 MW photo voltaic farm with 100 MWh of battery power storage and inexperienced hydrogen manufacturing capability.
