Published:

December 22, 2022: Mozambique is calling for expressions of interest to support proposals to build battery energy storage systems at 10 sites in the African country.

The African Development Bank, which has provided unspecified funding to support a renewable energy integration program in Mozambique, said part of the funding will be used to engage in consultancy services for BESS projects, in addition to -assess proposals for pumped storage hydropower plant.

The Mozambican government said that battery storage systems are needed to overcome the challenges associated with large-scale grid integration of renewables.

Expressions of interest must be delivered to Mozambique’s renewable energy directorate by January 27, 2023. Details are online.

Battery and Energy Storage Bulletin reported on September 9 that a consortium of international partners, including the Consortium for Battery Innovation, won a €10 million (.9 million) call under the EU’s flagship research and innovation funding instrument, Horizon Europe, to deploy the lead battery technology in the heart. of two innovative pilot energy storage systems for Zambia and Ivory Coast.

International Battery Issue 125 of the magazine takes an in-depth look at the prospects for a major expansion of battery manufacturing and investment in the deployment of BESS systems and related projects across Africa.
